Farm-to-School Professional Development Series

{workshop four} 
Schoolyard Ecology: Food, Flowers, & Fun!

Lettuce Learn will be conducting a workshop on school gardens from 10AM-12PM on Monday, July 18, 2016. Lunch will be provided by Stick Boy Bread Co.  This workshop will be provided in conjunction with N.C. Green Schools, who provide networking, resources, and  a recognition program for P-12 schools that want to "go green"! The afternoon portion of the collaboration will take place at various locations on Appalachian State University's campus. Dinner will be provided followed by a presentation from our keynote speaker, Bill McKibbon, Co-Founder of 350.org. Registration allows for attendance at any or all segments of the workshop.

Schoolyard Ecology: Food, Flowers, & Fun! (10AM-12PM)

Spend two hours with the Lettuce Learn team to learn practical school gardening tips and tricks for formal and informal teachers. Attendees will learn about lesson plans that they can incorporate into Science and ELA classes. Participants will also learn about technologies that can be incorporated in the garden to help ensure school gardening success. 

It's Electric! Renewable Energy for the Classroom (2PM-4PM)

​Spend two hours with the ASU Energy Center team learning about electricity and creative ways to use natural energy sources for electricity generation. Teachers will leave having learned a variety of ways to incorporate creative energy production into their classrooms. Projects include a hands-on wind turbine design and solar cooking.
