Picture
Lesson 2a.1
  • Watch this EdWeb Growing School Garden Webinar.  (48 min total, but feel free to begin on slide 12 around the 7 min mark) **You will be asked to enter your name and email to view the webinar.. this is not a password
Complete this quiz (again, enter your name and email)
Once you've successfully passed the quiz and receive your certificate of completion, post an image of your certificate to the Lettuce Learn Facebook page (you can post to the wall or send in a private message... your choice)

Lesson 2a.2
Useful Strategies for student engagement no matter what their age
  • Look over this list of videos that help to build a positive class culture, choose 5-10 that appeal to you, summarize each as if you were explaining the technique to a friend, and write your summary onto this Google Doc so that all the Garden Coordinators can view what you learned.
  • Think Time and Collaborative Learning
  • Tips and Tricks for Teaching Outdoors by EEAliance
  • Watch the two videos below:

{2b} Age Appropriate Communication

Lesson 2b.1:
View the short video to the right and digest their wisdom.  Be thinking about this same question during your time spent as Garden Coordinator so we may help those who come after you.
Lesson 2b.2:
You may complete the mini-lessons of all age categories below or choose which one(s) are most relevant to your assigned garden.

PRESCHOOLERS

  • Watch this short video documenting a preschool lesson in the garden and answer the questions found here. * You can also create a Username and Password on the site to log-in and access and download the teaching materials provided.
  • Watch this short video about attention getting techniques

ELEMENTARY
  • Watch this video about how to get their attention silently (you could create something more creative that relates to a garden... carrot fingers... or something)
  • Watch this video documenting an art lesson idea for elementary
MIDDLE SCHOOL
  1. Watch this EdWeb Growing School Garden Webinar then complete this quiz
  2. Watch this great video about student guided discussion.  Think about how even though the video is placed in a high school AP english class, how could you utilize these strategies while working with older kids in the garden?
