Experiment and Plan

Description: In Module 2 coordinators will Experiment with ideas and Illustrate Implementation-Coordinator will demonstrate application of Module One by relating the information even more to the assigned space and experiment with a plan of action

When: At the beginning of planting, garden bed prep
Approximate Dates: Mid-April to the end of May

Important Dates in this Module:
First day of Spring:
April 12: F2F Meeting at the Agricultural Center
April 25:

Lesson 1-Maps and Plans

  • Create a Map of the garden using information gleaned from Module One about gardening. Consider companion planting, the age group you are working with, the layout of the garden, the lessons you are trying to incorporate, and some room for experimentation

Lesson 2-Timeline or Schedule

Create a Time-line for your garden as well as for your events and workdays
  1. Loose dates for prepping, planting, harvesting (make sure to give yourself one or two blocks of time a week for the pure manual labor of this part of the job!
  2. Concrete Work Day ideas
  3. One (at least) Community Outreach Event (Ex. Harvest Day, Parent Day, International Peace Day)

Lesson 3-Collaborate with your school

Collaborative Assessment: Having already received input from garden host at the school, create a written breakdown of coordinator responsibilities so that everyone is aware of who is doing what

Lesson 4- Forum Posts

SHARE plans and maps from Lesson 1, Timeline from Lesson 2, responsibilities list from Lesson 3 and maps in the appropriate online forum. Also bring them to the April meeting, even if they aren't completed, for sharing ideas and giving one another feedback.

  •  Also, in the appropriate forum, start brainstorming about getting volunteers to help in your garden, considering the following ideas:
  1. recruitment ideas for volunteers
  2. preparation of volunteers

Then, as always, take some time to review other’s posts, comment and discuss as you feel compelled.

Just a reminder, we aren't looking for forced interaction, but helping when you feel you have something to offer, asking questions when you find yourself stumped on things, allowing yourself to be honest about strengths and weaknesses will allow us all to learn something new from each other throughout the term!

As you move through the assignments, remember the ultimate goal is to be best prepared for your particular experience. Contact your supervisor to modify an assignment for your own needs.
Goals:
  1. GOAL: Self-Regulate, Organization of Time
  2. GOAL: Calculate potential successes and experiment with new ideas
  3. GOAL: Practice community-building and finding your authentic audience
  4. GOAL: Collaborate with your school and your fellow coordinators to gain new perspective
