STATION 1:
Explore the Farm & Meet the Farmer The farmhouse and barn were built from chestnut in the late 1800s on a site where Indians came to make arrowheads from the granite found on the land. The farm, which was originally 45 acres, supported a family of five. Amy Fiedler chose the name, Springhouse Farms, because of the springhouse which still exists, which originally cooled food by utilizing the water from a nearby spring.
Amy and her family have been the keepers of the land for the past six years. Amy raises certified organic vegetables which are sold at the Boone Farmers’ Market, New River Organic Growers, Appalachian Regional Healthcare System Wellness Program, and to local restaurants and grocery stores. |
